Post 229 'Adopts' Nursing Home Veterans

Utica Post 229 has “adopted” the Pines at Utica Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation because 25 of its residents are veterans.

Members of the post visited the facility at 1800 Butterfield Avenue (formerly known as Eden Park) on Tuesday, Dec. 15, bringing Christmas presents and a bit of fellowship and conversation, Service Officer Dave Wilson reported.

In addition to the gifts, “we gave each veteran a post pin,” he said.

Added Post Commander Tony Palladino:

“It was worth a million dollars to see their faces light up... to see how pleased they were.”
