UTICA -- One is a dedicated firefighter who serves as a mentor to new members of the Utica Fire Department. The other is a paramedic constantly being thanked for the extraordinary care he provides.

They are Utica American Legion Post 229’s Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician of the Year for 2014.

Utica Post 229 honored Firefighter Michael A. Burline and Paramedic Milton P. Reeves Jr. Dec. 4 with dinner and an awards presentation at the North Utica Legion Post.

Post Commander Chris Urban and Post 229 Law-and-Order Chair Paul Wojcik presented the awards, with Fire Chief Russell Brooks citing Burline and Reeves for their dedication and professionalism.

Appointed to the Fire Department in March of 2009, Firefighter Burline has not only provided “admirable service,” Brooks said, but also has earned the respect of fellow firefighters and serves as a “great mentor.”

Firefighter/Paramedic Reeves joined the Department in March of 2004 and became a state-certified paramedic in 2006. “His commitment to be one of the best paramedics,” Brooks noted, “is evident by the number of citations and letters commending him on his outstanding professionalism and the extraordinary care he consistently provides.”

The awards ceremony followed a dinner attended by Legionnaires, auxiliary members, and the families of both honorees.
