Post Scholarships to Honor 2 Fallen Soldiers

Two fallen soldiers from the first unit in Afghanistan that Post 229 and its Auxiliary adopted will be memorialized in Auxiliary scholarships to JROTC students.

“I will be presenting the two scholarships we award to the Jr. ROTC students at Proctor High School in the names of these two soldiers,” reports Auxiliary member Pat Dodge, who coordinates troop support for the post.

The two 7th Engineer Battalion soldiers are:

  • Private First Class Jeremiah Monroe, 31, of Niskayuana, NY, killed Sept. 17 when a roadside bomb detonated near his vehicle. The combat engineer was stationed at Fort Drum before deploying in July 2009. He leaves a wife and daughter.

  • Specialist Alan Dikcis, 21, of Niagara Falls, NY, killed March 5 when a roadside bomb struck his vehicle. He was with the 630th Engineer Company, 7th Engineer Battalion. He was stationed at Fort Drum before deploying in July 2009. He leaves a daughter and her mother. He received the Bronze Star.
