Scout Council's Highest Honor for Adults

Dapre, McCall Awarded Silver Beaver

JUNE 19, 2010 -- Two members of Utica Post 229 have been honored with one of Scouting’s highest honors for adults – the Silver Beaver.

Wayne Dapre Sr. and Marybeth McCall, M.D., were among seven to receive the top Scout Council award during the annual Revolutionary Trails Council recognition dinner, held June 6 at the Radisson Hotel-Utica Centre.

This brings to three the number of Post 229 members who have earned the Silver Beaver. Member Dave Manore is also a recipient.

Dapre has been an active Scout and Scouter for more than 40 years. He was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Explorer. As an adult, he has been an assistant cubmaster, committee member, committee chair, unit commissioner and assistant scoutmaster. He was Alpin District commissioner for nine years. Currently he serves on the Catholic Committee of the All Faiths and is unit commissioner for Pack 229. He has received the Commissioner’s Key, Commissioner’s Arrowhead Award, Distinguished Commissioner Award, and the District Award of Merit. His adult Scouting training includes Scoutmaster Basic, Commissioner and District Commissioner training, and Woodbadge training. Dapre is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Commissioner Science.

Dapre and his wife, Paula, have five children and 11 grandchildren. Their son, Rhett, is an Eagle Scout.

Dr. McCall has been involved in Scouting for more than 20 years, starting out as a den mother for Pack 41 at Our Lady of Lourdes.

She has filled many positions; among them, committee member and executive board member.

She currently serves as president of the Revolutionary Trails Council, and is involved on a number of committees and boards in the community.

 Dr. McCall received the Distinguished Service Award for teaching master’s degree courses at SUNYIT to nurse practitioners, was named Woman of the Year in 1997 by the Business and Professional Women’s Association, and was honored as an outstanding woman in healthcare in 2008 by the YWCA.

Dr. McCall and her husband, Dr. Frank Dubeck, have two children. Their son, Tom, is an Eagle Scout.
