Top Cop, Firefighter Nominees Win County and District Awards

Post Commander Named Tops in County

JUNE 19, 2010 -- Tony Palladino, commander of Utica Post 229, was named 2009-2010 post commander of the year at the Oneida County Legion Convention on Saturday, June 12.

The award was presented by the past county commanders.

Palladino also was re-elected to the county’s Executive Board.

IN ADDITION, Post 229's top cops, Utica officers Scott Berger and Mike Petrie, and its EMT and firefighter of the year, Utica Fire Department's Lt. Mark Ambrose and Daniel Winn, were honored at the County Legion Convention with both the county and district level awards.

County Law-and-Order Chair Dick Wagner honored them as the county’s police officers of the year, EMT of the year and firefighter of the year.

Then, assisted by State Sen. Joe Griffo and Congressman Michael Arcuri, District 5 Law-and-Order Chair Paul Wojcik (a Post 229 member) presented the police officers and firefighters with district level awards, representing Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Oneida, Onondaga and Oswego counties. Now their names go the state level for consideration for the NY Department awards.

The county and district also honored a corrections officer of the year – Mike Schreck, nominated by Whitestown Post 1113.

AT THE DISTRICT 5 meeting on June 13, Wojcik, who is Post 229 chaplain and law-and-order chair, was elected district chaplain.
