Post 229 Treats 85 Kids to Christmas Cheer

Utica Post 229 hosted a Children’s Christmas Party Saturday afternoon, Dec. 19, bringing smiles and laughter to 85 kids and their families.

The children received presents, got to meet Santa Claus, romped with clowns, and feasted on hot dogs, chips, cupcakes and ice cream.

“It was a fun afternoon for both the kids and the volunteers,” noted Post Commander Tony Palladino.

He and Jim Haggerty, children and youth committee chair, expressed their appreciation for “for all the help provided by the Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion.”

Also, “we would like to thank Byrne Dairy for donating ice cream, and Burger King for donating the beverage and coupons for burgers and fries,” Haggerty said.

Ziyara Shriners provided the two clowns. One of the clowns was a soldier on leave from Afghanistan, who decided to join Post 229, Palladino noted. The Utica National Guard soldier returns to the Persian Gulf in January.

Leftover food from the party was brought to the Rescue Mission of Utica, Haggerty reported, and extra gifts were being donated to Thea Bowman House.
